A bit off-topic, but yesterday I watched "City of Hope", written and directed by Sayles. And what a terrific movie. A great social drama with epic scale. Cast is top notch, the direction is sensible and well crafted (long tracking shots that end with reverse angle) and the writing is nuanced and also very well made, tackling issues like corruption, racism and justice (the movie sadly didn't really age on this). I highly recommend it (but there is no Dolph material at all in it though ).

Back to MOW, I finally found evidence that the original Sayles script dates from 1986 (I thought so but wasn't sure).

I do not remember seeing that in the movie...

Good to see the comments pointing out the cover tho. Let's hope Retro Gold will keep this sort of feedback in mind for future releases (they probably wont, lol).

They likely won't since they've been doing this sort of covers for a while now...

What's also strange is they're really limited so I don't even know how they can break even...

Yeah, I highly doubt it. But at least for each film they also release more normal looking versions.

It's not too strange. Mediabooks (and similar packaging like this, like hartboxes) have a big collectors market in Germany. They're often very limited, and I know some collectors love getting each artwork variation (they even offer this option on Retro Gold's site).

But seriously, that's great news! I only have a Blu-ray release of MOW with Peacekeeper in it (I mostly bought that release for Peacekeeper). Hopefully this US release will have the unrated cut and be in the proper aspect ratio? I don't remember what the aspect ratio was of Digidreams' release was. But I think that one was correct, right?

Oh wow, thanks for the heads-up! I decided to pick up The Shooter anyways because I don't wanna miss out (gotta love FOMO, lol). Ended up with the "B" variant.

Maybe something interesting for collector's here, they have the Nameless Media 'bust' release of Silent Trigger on sale for €63. Pretty decent deal I'd say for those who like that type of stuff. I happen to have it myself, and it's a fun item. But Dolph's face looks a little off if you look too closely.
