Hm, looks ok but the tag line doesn't translate very well. I wonder why they tried, because more and more titles and even tag lines stay English even for the German version. Or sometimes they exchange the original English title with an easier to understand English title for the German market ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" -> "Tiger and Dragon" and "The Rundown" -> "Welcome to the Jungle").

Fine, not a bad piece of advice, but come on... The kid's gotta go out and grab the world by the b*lls. There's something to be said for youthful enthusiasm too. And for having dreams and aspirations and setting goals for yourself. It's not time for Nathan to give up on all that just yet.

You're absolutely right which why I almost felt bad writing it but I've seen too much not to say it. Go Nate take the world by storm and grab it by the balls!

There's some sort of DVD price war going on which has caused Amazon to drastically drop prices on new movies. As a result, both the standard and Blu-Ray versions of COMMAND PERFORMANCE are only $15.

I know what you mean, though, I've worked in creative fields for a lot of my adult life and it's frustrating to deal with sh'thead superiors and stuff. But there ARE ways to make it work.

Great news for Nate, he loves grabbing balls!

P.S. I forget how old you are, Nathan, but if you're underage I take that joke back. Reluctantly.

Thanks guys, yeah I know Jox, I got the impression that most studio heads like to "play it safe" and go with the gun in hand, explosion behind situation. It's okay Dolphage I'm 18 haha.

COMMAND PERFORMANCE DVD missing Special Features

Postby Ivan, Jr. on 10 Nov 2009, 04:49

I just receiveded my DVD copy(US-Region 1) of "Command Performance" today. On the back of the DVD case the "Special Features" segment says it has interviews with Dolph and behind the scenes fight footage. But there is no special featues menu to select from! :( . Did I get a defective copy or did anyone else get the same? I would really like to see the special features as they are advertised.

Hey Ivan, Jr., I haven't got a copy myself yet but I know you're not the only one....

As this is unacceptable, it's important that everyone makes a written complain to their retailer and First Look Studios (I worked for a DVD label you don't press the discs after you checked everything of course).

Thanks for the info on the studio Jox! I'm definately going to contact them about this. It really ticks me off since it was almost a year from the time the movie was completed before it was released. That's more than enough time to make sure everything was included in the DVD. Long live The Dolph!

Ok, I've watched it yesterday and here's my review:

No, wait. I'm too lazy for a complete review and I am totally impressed by Tom's reviews, so I won't even try. Let's call this my impressions and remarks:

1. This movie rocks! I mean, I'm often very enthusiastic after first viewing but cool off later. But I doubt this will happen with Command Performans, because it really rocks!
2. All the actors are very good and convincing. In the other movies, there are often mediocre or bad actors here and there, but this time I couldn't name a single one that didn't deliver. Dolph had an excellent supporting cast, from the big to the tiny roles. Dave Legeno (main bad guy) was awesome, Hristo Shopov as well, Zahary Baharov, Clement von Franckenstein, even Melissa Smith (she's 27? Gosh, she looks like 17!). I can't tell how happy I am to finally see a Dolph movie again with such an excellent cast from the biggest to the smallest part.
3. The story: Absolutely believable, consistent, very nice. Nothing to complain here!
4. The fights: Fantastic! Did I mention before that I prefer Dolph without weapons? I mean, it's impossible, because he is a weapon. But I'm talking distance weapons. Well, we got plenty of hand to hand combat and dirty fighting. And he definitely put into practice what he's been talking about: the consequences aren't clean. I can't go into detail without spoilers but well, if you stick something into a person it won't come out clean, and you can see that in this movie. During the final fight I even had to laugh one time because after one fist blow there splashed what seemed like 250ml of fake blood or something. Oh yes, and for the gun enthusiast there's also a lot of shooting. Even some explosions. I guess only flood and earthquake are missing from the full repertoire. And volcano outburst. ;-)
5. The oneliners: Yes, brilliant. And he knows how to deliver them. Could have been more though!
6. The man himself: An absolute surprise! To be honest, I was sceptical about how he would deliver a pot smoking rocker, but he was absolutely convincing. Don't know how he did it, because in the past when he played a drunk or a broken person like in Jill Rips or the beginning of MoW, he always looked too healthy and kinda awkward when he was drinking alcohol. Now he was absolutely convincingly wasted and managed to shuffle across the scenes like he would never do it differently. Loved the scene when the reporter interviewed him but he didn't really have the chance to give an answer. Hilarious! And when it came to the action, he was excellent as always. The shuffling stopped and the quick moves and hard blows came. Forget his last 10 or so movies, this is Dolph on a different acting level!
7. The filming: Nice pictures, this time it didn't look cheap at all. Remember recently when I asked what it was that always shows that a movie is cheap? It it was the lighting, the material or what? This time you didn't see it. Looked like an expensive movie to me, even if it wasn't. Great work! My only - but big - complaint: FRAG THAT FRIGGIN SHAKY CAM! During half of the movie I desperately wanted to hand a tripod to the camera guy. And get those scissors from the cutter so he could only do half as many cuts per second. Could you please, please release a "special edition for the elderly" with a steady picture and not more than one cut per second? Puleeeeaaaze?

Well, I have to say: Fantastic work, Dolph and everyone involved in this excellent movie!

PS: OK, got carried away. Hope you had the patience to read that stuff. ;)

WOW Mosquito! And if I remember correctly, weren't you a bit skeptical about this movie?

Actually there aren't that many cuts, the editor is pretty old-school and it appeared early during the assembly that the footage shot had an energy such that it didn't need to be cut to give tension or a frenetic pace.

Yes I was after the trailer, and I'm very happy to say that my expectations regarding that scepticism weren't met.

Hm really? Maybe I noticed only on special occasions when there were more than average? Or maybe I was so annoyed by the shaky cam that I also perceived the cuts as being hectic sometimes. Or I'm just too old for that shit. ;-) I guess I mentioned about a thousand times how relaxing No Country for Old Men was to me and how I hate Bourne and the last Bond for that style.
