It's 10 years too late. Plus I think apart from his physical abilities he lacks something (bigger charisma? more acting skills?) to become a big star (not mentioning the English language/accent handicap), and the martial arts thing is over apart from exceptions like THE RAID and the DTV market. But he'll get stuff done none the less for sure like all our other action stars.

In the case of NEVER BACK DOWN 3, I don't know how well the 2nd one (already directed by MJW) did but it was an easy grrenlight with Dolph/MW manager, co-producer of SKIN TRADE Craig Baumgarten also being behind the NEVER BACK DOWN films...

Seems the film hasn't appeared on the weekend Box office estimates. The lowest film on the list grossed $1000 so it could mean ST grossed lower.
I honestly don't see the point in these limited releases at all. There's absolutely no demand for people to see a film like this on the big screen any more unfortunately.

Remember it got only 1 screen with only 1 show a day! In 3 days how could it gross more than a few hundred bucks at best? US4 did terribly with 3 screens and shows all day long so this will be worse... It's lucky they were willing to promote it and do a premiere but this is kind of underwhelming (and false publicity saying it's out "in theatreS" even though they had hoped on more). Good for the VOD though hopefully, since obviously you want people to pay on demand rather than downloading illegally.

Damn. Not sure why they had to promote it as in "theatres"
I would guess Pound of Flesh and the Seagal film will be the same.

NBD 2 actually made some ridiculous profit to budget margin. It was hovering around The Dark Knight for Warner Bros.

As for Jaa, his US career will be at the VOD/DTV level, barring henchman roles. It's just the way the market is.

If you must know, SKIN TRADE grossed $162 in the US last week end... but with only 3 showings I repeat (that still makes it like 5-10 people max per show)... that hurts but that's what happens with such a thin release. (and all those who don't live in LA must be like "where is this playing"?!)

UNISOL4 (also released by Magnet) was playing in 3 cities with standard screenings all day long, the opening week-end had a $1,000 per screen average, $160 the second week)

Blu-ray.com review

(no, the ending was not intended for a sequel but rather to leave the audience with a more downbeat/bittersweet ending)

Plus, the stars weren't there for Q&A's and the like.

You mean for US4? There wasn't a premiere but Dolph (with John Hyams) did quite a bit of publicity for it (the press conference may still be on YT) in the U.S. (and Adkins must have done some interviews as well if I remember). The fact that it was released theatrically as well and got excellent reviews also gave it quite a bit of attention in the medias (but from what I hear even the DVD/blu-ray didn't do so well in the States).

Michael Jai White interview:
http://www.avclub.com/article/michael-j ... -st-219130
The A.V. Club: Did you take the role as an opportunity to work with Tony Jaa?

Michael Jai White: That’s part of the reason. But if it weren’t a good script, I wouldn’t have done it. I’m a firm believer in supporting your fan base. And whenever you do things for the wrong reason, I don’t think you deserve the fans’ support. I remember when an actor I was a big fan of—who will remain nameless—started doing these movies where he was just phoning it in, like he was doing it for the money. And that felt like such a betrayal. I never want to do that. I respect my fans, and I’m so thankful to have them.

AVC: Dolph Lundgren wrote the first draft of this script years ago. It was a story he was trying to get made for a while.

MJW: He was going around trying to figure out how to do it. At one time, he was considering me for the co-starring role, until he found the situation with Tony [Jaa], which was a better situation.

Peter Weller interview on SKIN TRADE:
I’ve always liked Dolph Lundgren.

This movie does say something, like ‘Schindler’s List’ (1993) or ‘The Lives of Others’ (2006).

According to Box Office Mojo, so far ST grossed $141,329 in Thailand and $162,163 in Malaysia in about 40 screens, and a mere $377 in LA (one week, one show per day).
